A little background story… I have heard this in the name of Rabbi Nachum of Bresslow, but I think it is older than that, if my memory serves me.

There is a story of a King, whose adviser came rushing in to tell that everyone in the kingdom had drunk from a well which made them crazy. To which the King replied, bring for us to drink too, or they will think us mad. I’ve always wondered if the King took the right action, or not. I tend to think it would have been braver to stay sane, but I understand the desire to fit in, especially if you are King, ironically.
